Home History Philosophy & Curriculum Teachers
Tuition

Pooh Corner’s philosophy places an emphasis on individuality while also teaching respect of others. The teachers coach the children in empathetic and pro-social behaviors and use it as a foundation for conflict resolution and limit setting.
By providing a stimulating atmosphere where children participate in making choices and decisions about their own activities, we take an active role in nurturing their natural curiosity, and fostering their deep desire to learn about the world around them. Our project-oriented curriculum is shaped by the children’s interests thereby helping them to become independent learners. Parents play an important role by sharing their resources and expertise and by participating in helping to shape the projects on many different levels. The entire Pooh Corner village really does teach the children!

Our programs are tailored to respect and accommodate the emotional, intellectual and physical well being of each child, rather than sorting them solely by chronological age. In light of this, our groupings of the children are purposely somewhat fluid and all groups are multi-age – an ideal way for children to develop important social skills. When deciding which group is best for your children we consider their physical and emotional maturity, temperament, birth order, motor skills, developmental abilities, potty training, the make-up of each group and other factors. Our four groups, and their average age guidelines, are: Infant/Toddler, 3 months – 2 1/2 years; Transition, 18 months –3 years; Pre-School 2 ½ to 4 years and Pre-K 3 ½ - 6 years. As children move through the program, interaction with all the children in the center, as well as with the entire staff is incorporated into their daily routine. This structure encourages the formation of strong emotional bonds and connections, and provides a healthy foundation of security and stability.
