Home History Philosophy & Curriculum Teachers
One of the many things that make Pooh Corner so special is the continuity of care we are able to provide by maintaining the same fabulous teachers for many years, (which, in some cases means several decades). The ability to engender this level of loyalty is evidence of our family-centric philosophy and shapes our environment as an extension of the home atmosphere.

Kim Selman, Assistant Director
Kim Selman, Assistant Director- Kim joined the Pooh Corner in 1988 and her family has continued to join ours ever since! Four of Kim’s six children and her granddaughter have attended Pooh Corner over the past two (plus) decades. Kim holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education Administration from Ashford University and a Pennsylvania Director’s Certification.

Halimah Halimah AbdulHaqq, Pre-K Head Teacher
Halimah started at Pooh Corner in 1998 as a substitute, left when she became pregnant and returned with baby Raiyanah in tow to become an assistant teacher in the Transition Group. Her son Zakariya also attended Pooh Corner. She completed her Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education in 2011. Halimah was co-head teacher of the Pre-K 1 Group prior to taking over the reins of head teacher in the Transition Program in 2012.

Jasmine Miller, Preschool Co-Head Teacher
Jasmine joined the Pooh Corner team in August. She comes to us with a Bachelor’s degree from Penn State University in Human Development and Family studies. Jasmine also had 10 years of experience working with young children -- 3 years as a nanny and 7 years in a daycare center with 3 and 4 year olds. Jasmine has 2 children of her own, 10 year old, Nasir and 2 year old, Alex, who is in the Transition program.

Samantha Green, Preschool Co-Head Teacher
Samantha began her first tour of duty in 1996 as an assistant teacher in Pre-K. It was clear from the beginning that she had a gift for teaching and was a natural kid-magnet. After 7 years of wowing the children with her imaginative stories and creative teaching style, she yearned for a change and became the After School Program Director at Green Street Friends for 13 years. In 2009 she returned to Pooh as lead teacher of Transition and finally in 2013 came full circle to become the lead teacher of the Preschool group. Samantha has taken courses in education and the humanities at Temple and Chestnut Hill and has the equivalent of a Bachelor's Degree.

Rose Rose O'Neill, Head Teacher of the Infant Group
Rose O'Neill began her Pooh Career in 2008 as an assistant teacher in the Infant/Toddler Group. Rose recently took over the reins as head teacher of the Infant group. Rose has a Bachelor's Degree from Penn State in the social sciences. She has 3 children of her own
Justine Eastwood, Transition Head Teacher
Justine came to Pooh Corner in 2016 as an assistant in the Transition program. Her calm demeanor and her understanding and caring for young children quickly earned her a position as the lead teacher in the Transition program. Justine started earning her Bachelor’s degree at Hofstra University and is planning to continue her studies at Temple U to complete her Bachelor’s, after which she is planning to earn a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education.
Denise Heckstall, Toddler Group Supervisor
We welcomed Denise to Pooh Corner in 2000 as a floater after 8 years with the Philadelphia Head Start program. It didn’t take long to see that Denise was a good fit with the toddlers. She became an assistant teacher in the Transition program and held that position for 13 years. In 2013, Denise joined the Infant/toddler program as an assistant teacher. In her four years in the infant/Toddler program, she continued to show such love and caring for the toddlers and her understanding and knowledge of their development grew immensely. She took the reins of the toddlers in that program as the group lead.
Assistant Teachers
Many of our Assistant Teachers have also been with us for many years (4 of them for ten and counting). Several are currently pursuing relevant degrees in higher education, and all have chosen Pooh Corner for their children’s preschool education.
